Asian Style Chicken Thighs

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup oil

  • 800 grams boneless and skinless chicken thighs

  • 1/2 cup water

  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar

  • 2 teaspoons minced ginger

  • 3 teaspoons minced garlic

  • 2 tablespoons reduced -sodium soy sauce

  • 1 tablespoon tomato sauce

  • 2 tablespoons orange juice

1 tablespoon oyster sauce


1/4 teaspoon Chinese five spice powder



  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds

  • 2 spring onions thinly sliced

  • 2 teaspoons cornflour

  • 1/4 cup water extra




Method

Heat oil in a large solid frypan.


Add the chicken pieces


Fry chicken pieces gently till lightly browned both sides , will take about 20-30 minutes in total



In a bowl place the 1/2 cup water, orange juice, ginger , garlic, tomato sauce , oyster sauce, soy sauce, brown sugar and Chinese five spice powder and whisk all together


Pour this into the frypan with the chicken pieces and cook gently till it reduces by about 1/3 rd this will take about 15-20 minutes , then add the cornflour dissolved in the extra water, stir through till it thickens, cook for another 5-10 minutes ensuring chicken pieces are cooked through

Sprinkle the sesame seeds and spring onions and ready to serve


Steamed rice and vegetables are a good accompaniment
